INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Effective Sept. 19, Target will eliminate over 200 jobs at a distribution center in Indianapolis.
All affected employees work for the retailer’s fulfillment operations at 7551 W. Morris St., near the Indianapolis International Airport. More than 70% of the job cuts, 145 positions, are warehouse associates.
The building itself won’t close, a Target spokesperson told News 8. According to a notice filed with the state, Target’s Regional Replenishment Operation inside the facility is not impacted and will continue to operate.
“As we continue to evolve our supply chain to deliver the ease, speed, and value consumers expect, we are adjusting the types of operations performed at our Indianapolis Distribution Center and redistributing certain capabilities to other nearby facilities,” a Target spokesperson told News 8 in a statement. “These changes impact a limited number of team members who will have the opportunity to apply for different roles within the facility and at nearby locations.”
The company said it’s still hiring at the distribution center, and a majority of impacted employees have already accepted new positions.
