INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — People in part of downtown Noblesville were asked to shelter in place after a possible chemical explosion Thursday afternoon.
The incident happened sometime before 1:35 p.m. at 835 Wayne St., the Noblesville Fire Department said on X. The address is for an Indiana American Water facility at North Eighth and Wayne streets, just north of the courthouse.
The fire department initially described it as an “explosion,” but said in an update that it was a “possible explosion.”
One person was transported to Ascension St. Vincent Hospital with minor injuries, NFD said in a release.
At 2 p.m., the fire department’s hazmat team was inside the building for an investigation.
In a post on X at 2:25 p.m. Thursday, the Noblesville Fire Department provided the following update:
“Public Safety Authorities remain on the scene of a hazmat emergency in Noblesville. If you are in the immediate one-block area between Wayne and Clinton Streets, or 8th and 10th Streets, please remain sheltered in place until an all-clear is issued.”
