Indianapolis Pizza Festival takes over Monument Circle Saturday
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The first Indianapolis Pizza Festival is set to take place Saturday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Monument Circle. Organizers say people will sample a wide variety of pizzas from 30 different vendors, vote on their favorite, and then the winning pizza place will receive $5,000.
Tommy Barrett created the festival. He is known on TikTok as ‘starts with a question.’ He joined Daybreak to explain why he started the festival and how some people can still get tickets to the currently sold out festival this weekend.
“I think it’s very important to me and to the city to have events like this,” Barrett said. “And pizza was the biggest passion I think I could find in my life so far, besides sports.”
The event is sold out, but Barrett says some tickets will be released on Instagram on Saturday.
The festival will feature a diverse range of pizzas beyond the typical pepperoni and sausage. Food trucks like Pie Indy and Solo Pizza will be serving up slices, as will established names like Greeks Pizza and Greencastle’s Bridges Wine Bar.
Barrett says pizza lovers will have the opportunity to explore different styles and flavors, and potentially discover new favorites — all while voting alongside celebrity judges.
“Everyone decides who wins, because at the end of the day, I’m going to take a big check, and I’m going to hand $5,000 to whoever’s the winner. So, it matters. It’s not just my festival. It’s everybody in the state’s, everybody in the city’s. So everybody needs to vote,” Barrett said.
