GREENWOOD, Ind. (WISH) — A Greenwood firefighter and one police officer were injured while trying to rescue a person after their car crashed into water.
At 3:48 p.m. Tuesday, a person drove their car into a pond at 963 East Worthsville Road, next to Friendship Church. The Greenwood Fire Department Dive Team went into the water and rescued the driver.
The driver, who has not been identified, was taken to the hospital where they were pronounced dead.
While pulling the driver from the pond, a firefighter and police officer got minor injuries. “Both are expected to recover,” the fire department said.
The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.
Eastbound Worthsville Road is closed while police investigate the crash and crews recover the vehicle from the pond.
