Man sentenced to 7 years for drug possession, hitting IMPD officer with SUV

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A 37-year-old Indianapolis man who was arrested after an Indianapolis police shooting in November 2024 was sentenced Monday to seven years in prison, the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office said Monday.

Terrance Shane in May had agreed to plead guilty to a mid-level felony charge of possession of a narcotic drug, and a low-level felony charges of battery by means of a deadly weapon.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers about 4:15 p.m. Nov. 14 responded to a call regarding an unresponsive man in an SUV in the drive-thru of the CVS drugstore at 16th and Meridian streets. Officers tried to wake Shane and, after he complied initially, he reversed the SUV, pinning an officer against the building.

The officer fired a weapon in response and injured Shane.

Magistrate Ross Farrell Anderson issued the sentence in Marion Superior Court 21, online court records showed.

Prosecutors had argued for Shane to serve 10 years in a prison.

A jail booking photo of Shane was requested Monday afternoon from IMPD.
