INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis police spent hours in a standoff with a suspect after a woman was shot Saturday night.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department reports that the standoff started when a woman was shot in a home near East Washington and South Gray streets. Police said she was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
But while officers were able to get her to safety, the suspect stayed bunkered in the home.
Starting at 8 p.m., police made several announcements to the suspect and tried to negotiate, but nobody made a move for hours. During the standoff, IMPD said another woman left the home–her connection to the incident is unclear to police.
Once IMPD learned that there was a gun inside the home, they calling in the SWAT team.
After midnight, the SWAT managed to enter the home and arrest the suspect, a man, without any more incidents.
IMPD says there is no threat to the community.
