INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A 29-year-old man convicted of sexual battery was sentenced Wednesday to six years in prison.
The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday announced that Cody Mason has been sentenced to six years in the Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) for a sexual battery that occurred outside of the Indianapolis City-County Building in November 2024.
In June, Mason plead guilty to felony counts of criminal confinement, sexual battery, and resisting law enforcement.
According to the terms of the agreement, the sentence would be open with at least two years to be served in the IDOC. In the courtroom Wednesday, prosecutors argued for the maximum penalty of six years in prison. After the presentation of evidence and arguments, the court sentenced Mason to the maximum.
Just before noon on Nov. 8, 2024, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to assist IMPD detectives with a resisting suspect. Responding officers were informed that Mason had been seen assaulting a woman outside of the City-County Building when detectives and bystanders intervened. According to the victim, Mason was acting erratically and had followed her before repeatedly inappropriately touching her. Mason then refused to comply with police while being taken into custody.
