14-year-old, three other teens among those charged in Fourth of July crimes

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Seven additional people, including four teens, have been charged for their roles in various incidents over Fourth of July weekend.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office announced the charges Wednesday. These charges are unrelated to the fatal shootings the morning of July 5.

The teens, ages ranging from 14 to 17, faced varying degrees of charges.

  • 14-year-old boy: Charged with auto theft and faces a gun possession charge. Same teen was also accused of resisting arrest.
  • 14-year-old boy: Charged with escape; faces charges for resisting arrest.
  • 16-year-old boy: Charged with criminal recklessness and an unspecified charge for shooting fireworks at other people. 
  • 17-year-old boy: Misdemeanor charges for unspecified crimes.

Three adults were also identified and charged after reportedly setting off fireworks in crowded spaces. One of the suspects was also accused of shooting a Roman Candle at a police officer.

  • Mikelle Martin, 18: Criminal recklessness, battery on a public safety official, and resisting law enforcement.
  • Khalid-Ali Davis, 21: Battery resulting in bodily injury and criminal recklessness.
  • Drake Hughes, 18: Criminal recklessness.

Previously, the prosecutor’s office announced they had filed charges against four other teens for guns and drugs related crimes. Vincent Lanking, 17, was the only juvenile in this batch to be charged as an adult.

Prosecutors say they will provide more information once available.
