Marcus’ 4 a.m. Tuesday forecast
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Near-normal temperatures with muggy conditions and daily storm chances are expected this week.
Today:
Muggy weather continues with a few spotty showers and thunderstorms appearing on storm tracker in southern parts of the state. Any rain chances this morning should remain well south of I-70 through lunchtime.
A few areas of fog have also developed. These should remain quite isolated and will dissipate by mid-morning.
Expect partly cloudy skies, seasonable temperatures, and muggy conditions. Highs will reach the mid-80s, with feels-like temperatures climbing into the low to mid-90s this afternoon. The heating of the day will also trigger scattered showers and thunderstorms across the area. As with most days over the past several weeks, severe weather is not anticipated, but heavy downpours with frequent lightning are possible.
Tonight:
Chances for showers and thunderstorms will diminish as we head into the evening hours with the loss of daytime heating. Look for mostly cloudy skies with lows in the low 70s.
Wednesday:
Wednesday will bring more of the same, with muggy conditions and seasonal temperatures. Highs will reach the mid to upper 80s, with feels-like temperatures in the mid-90s.
There is a slightly elevated chance for thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon and Wednesday night as a more organized system moves into the Midwest by midweek.
Northern parts of the state are under a Level 1 out of 5 risk for severe thunderstorms, with gusty winds being the primary concern.
Late week:
Scattered storms are also possible on Thursday, with muggy air still in place and high temperatures reaching the upper 80s.
We could briefly dry out on Friday as a weak area of high pressure settles in to our north. Temperatures will remain seasonable, reaching the mid-80s.
Chances for storms will return for the weekend and early next week, with highs in the upper 80s.
Dangerous heat next week?
There are some indications that we could experience the hottest temperatures of the year by midweek next week, with some projections already suggesting heat indices well over 100°F starting Tuesday of next week.
