INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — For the first time in Indiana State Fair history, a corn-eating competition will happen in August.
The contest, sponsored by Arcadia grocer Wilson Farms, will challenge participants to devour six ears of Indiana sweet corn as quickly as possible. It’ll be 4 p.m. Aug. 10 at the Corteva Coliseum.
The competition has been divided into two age categories: adults 18 and older, and a youth category for ages 13-17. Parental consent is required for the youth contest.
Contestants will be given 5 minutes to eat the corn. If it’s a tie, a second speedy eating of two ears will happen.
Participants must eat the corn directly from the cob using only their hands, and no butter or other assistance is allowed.
All contestants will receive fair admission, a parking voucher, and a participation ribbon. It wasn’t clear from information on the state fair’s website what the winners will receive.
