INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Police say a woman is dead after she was hit by an SUV while walking down a street on the city’s southwest side.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were called just after 3 a.m. Thursday to the area of Kentucky Avenue and Maywood Road, just south of Tibbs, where officers found the woman lying in the road.
She was rushed to a hospital but later died.
Investigators say the woman appeared to be walking northbound on the street in an area that was not well lit when she was hit.
The man driving the SUV was working with investigators and showed no signs of impairment. He was taken in for a blood draw which is required by state law when there is a fatal accident.
IMPD says that area of Kentucky Avenue will be closed while they investigate.
This story was created using a script that aired on WISH-TV.
