Twice-convicted thief arrested after carjacking at Indianapolis gas station

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A 45-year-old Indianapolis woman, who received suspended sentences after she was convicted of thefts in 2019 and 2024, has been arrested after trying to carjack a man Saturday at a gas station on the city’s northeast side, police say.

Latosha Hall was arrested on preliminary charges of auto theft, driving while suspended with a prior conviction, possession of paraphernalia and marijuana, resisting law enforcement, and battery on a public official. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will determine what charges to file in court.

Information from Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said the carjacking happened sometime before 5:15 p.m. Saturday at the Marathon gas station at East 46th Street and North Arlington Avenue. The man told police he’d been hit in the head with a glass bottle, and that his phone, wallet and keys had been taken in addition to his gold 2010 Chevrolet sedan. Medics at the scene treated his injuries.

After an attempted traffic stop led to a chase, police caught up with Hall and the stolen sedan at a home in a neighborhood adjacent to Wes Montgomery Park, about a mile southwest of the gas station.

Hall on Tuesday afternoon will have a videoconference hearing in Marion Superior Court 19 on violating her probation in relation to her February 2025 conviction in the 2024 auto theft case. She was awaiting the hearing while in the Marion County jail on Monday night.

In the 2019 case, she pleaded guilty to theft and an additional charge of auto theft was dropped before she was given a suspended sentence in Marion Superior Court 18.
