Circle City Broadcasting launches $2 Million campaign to combat youth violence in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Circle City Broadcasting is investing $2 million annually in a new campaign aimed at reducing youth crime and violence in Indianapolis and surrounding areas.

The initiative, titled Youth Alternatives To Violence And Crime (YATVAC), was announced Monday by DuJuan McCoy, owner, president and CEO of Circle City Broadcasting, the parent company of WISH-TV and WNDY-TV.

YATVAC will use the full scope of Circle City Broadcasting’s platforms—including WISH-TV, WNDY-TV, WISHTV.COM, Circulus Digital Media and Circle City Broadcasting Entertainment—to reach young people under 17, as well as parents, grandparents and caretakers.

The campaign will include:

  • Nightly curfew reminders
  • Success story vignettes
  • Public service announcements focused on alternatives to crime and violence
  • An online resource database
  • Quarterly solution-driven town halls aired statewide
  • Social and digital media campaigns
  • Additional collaborative resources to be announced

McCoy said the campaign will be supported by partnerships with state and local government, advocacy groups, churches and corporate leaders.

“Having grown up in Haughville, Indianapolis and now as the owner of a trusted media outlet, I believe it is important not only to report on these issues but to take a proactive, solutions-based approach to help our community overcome this long-standing challenge,” McCoy said. “CCB is leading this charge and encourages other community stakeholders to join YATVAC.”

The initiative will officially launch Aug. 4 under the direction of award-winning executive producer Peggy McClelland of Circle City Broadcasting Entertainment.
