KOKOMO, Ind. (WISH) — Deputies with the Howard County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday are investigating the death of a 22-year-old man from Kokomo.
At 9:21 a.m. Saturday, Howard County deputies were dispatched to the 1700 block of 400 East in Kokomo, north of County Road East 200 South and south of County Road East 100 South, in reference to a vehicle crashing into a residence with the driver being unconscious and unresponsive.
At 9:40 a.m. Saturday, paramedics from Ascension St. Vincent Hospital arrived and pronounced the driver dead at the scene.
The scene was secured and deputies met with the homeowner, who advised that she was inside her home when she heard the noise, and after going out to investigate, she found that a black Dodge pickup truck had crashed into the backside of her home and then into a detached garage.
Deputies found an occupant in the cab of the vehicle, who was later identified as Brett Anthony Davis, 22, of Kokomo.
The Howard County Coroner’s Office, the Howard County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division, and an accident reconstructionist were called to the scene. Kokomo Fire Department personnel had to work to stabilize the two buildings to render them safe for the investigators to proceed.
After further investigation, Deputies discovered David had also suffered a gunshot wound. Firearms were also discovered inside the cab of the vehicle.
Investigators believe Davis was traveling southbound on County Road 400 East and veered off the east side of the roadway, through a bean field and through a tree line before striking a residential garage and then coming to a rest inside the detached garage on the south side of the residence. A forensic autopsy is being scheduled by the Howard County Coroner’s Office.
Investigators ask that anyone with information contact Detective Scott Waymire at 765-456-2020.
