Wienermobiles to ‘meat up’ at IMS for Wiener 500
SPEEDWAY, Ind. (WISH) — What do you get when you cross the “Racing Capital of the World” with Oscar Mayer Wienermobiles? The first-ever “Wienie 500.”
On Tuesday, the company announced the inaugural running of the race. It will see the iconic Wienermobiles make their racing debut at Indianapolis Motor Speedway during Carb Day on Friday.
Each of the six Wienermobiles will get brand new liveries representing a different regional hot dog.
The racers will represent the Chicago Dog (Midwest), New York Dog (East), Slaw Dog (Southeast), Sonoran Dog (Southwest), Chili Dog (South) and Seattle Dog (Northwest).
Drivers will also sport customer “Hotdogger” racing suits. The first to cross the finish line will receive a trophy in the “Winner’s Circle” along with a condiment spray and a hot dog.
“The Indy 500 marks the unofficial kickoff of summer and the start of hot dog season,” Kelsey Rice, brand communications director at Oscar Mayer, said in a release. “As a brand known for sparking smiles in disarmingly delightful ways, it’s only fitting that we bring a race of epic proportions to the Speedway and celebrate a timeless tradition: delicious meats and a little friendly competition to kick off a summer of wieners.”
Fans will also be able to predict the winning dog through a partnership with online gambling platform DraftKings. Racing and hot dog aficionados alike can enter a free pool for a chance to win a share of $10,000.
IMS is also naming Oscar Mayer the ‘Official Hot Dog’ of the historic track and the Indy 500.
Oscar Mayer says the Wienie 500 will be the first time in over a decade that all six Wienermobiles will “meat-up” in the same location.
