School bus hits utility pole on east side
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — No one was seriously hurt when a school bus hit a utility pole on the city’s east side Tuesday morning, but police have shut down a busy intersection for crash cleanup.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers responded just after 6:20 a.m. to an accident at the intersection of East 21st Street and North Ritter Avenue.
Officers arrived and found a school bus with heavy front-end damage, a downed utility pole, and a stoplight dangling from an overhead wire.
The bus was transporting students to Andrew J. Brown Academy, a public charter school on East 34th Street, when the crash occurred, IMPD says.
There were no injuries to passengers or the driver that required a trip to the hospital, according to IMPD.
It’s not clear what led to the accident or if wet driving conditions were a factor.
The intersection of East 21st Street and North Ritter Avenue is closed for crash investigation and cleanup.
News 8 has reached out to Andrew J. Brown Academy for comment.
