Two arrested for death of 3-year-old girl in Monroe County
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) — Two Bloomington women were arrested Thursday on preliminary charges of neglect following the death of a 3-year-old girl who was found unconscious and not breathing six days earlier, authorities say.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office found the girl Aug. 8 when called to a home in the 4000 block of North Thomas Road. That’s in a small housing addition about a mile south of downtown Ellettsville.
A news release issued Thursday night from the sheriff’s office did not give the girl’s name or her relationship to the two women. The girl died Wednesday at Riley Hospital for Children in downtown Indianapolis.
Keera L. Braun, 27, and Millissa D. Hicks, 50, face preliminary charges of neglect of a dependent, a top-level felony. In addition, Braun faces two preliminary charges of neglect of a dependent, a low-level felony, and Hicks faces one preliminary charge of the same count.
Both women remained in the county jail on Thursday night. Online court records did not show a case had been filed as of Thursday night.
Investigators have not concluded their work, continuing to look into the circumstances that led to the girl’s death.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Detective Lt. Jennifer Allen with the sheriff’s office at 812-335-7230.
A jail booking photo of Hicks was not immediately available from the sheriff’s office on Thursday night.
