1 male dead, 1 wounded in shooting; suspects in custody after car crash

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis police say two suspects for a fatal shooting were found at the scene of a crash on another side of town. Now, police are working to uncover if a wounded male in the shooting was a victim or another suspect.

Early Saturday morning at 1:52 a.m., Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers got the call of a person shot in the 3300 block of Graceland Avenue, near Crown Hill Cemetery. When they arrived at the house, they say a male of an unknown age was shot multiple times in the backyard.

IMPD Capt. John Arvin says that medics transported the male to Methodist Hospital, but 30 minutes later he died from his injuries.

Shortly after, another male who was shot showed up at Eskenazi Hospital for treatment; he is in stable condition. Arvin says that the vehicle who dropped him off was originally from the 3300 block of Graceland Avenue, so police believe this male was wounded in the same shooting.

Witnesses told police that two people ran from the scene after the gunshots rang out.

While police were investigating the shooting, a separate incident found those suspects. IMPD officers responded to a car crash on West 21st Street, and the suspects in that incident are believed to be involved with the shooting.

Now with search warrants, IMPD officers are investigating the scene and working to uncover if the second male who was shot is a victim or a suspect. “So it’s a lot to unwind,” Arvin said.
