19-year-old wounded in shooting near IU Bloomington

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.(WISH) — A 19-year-old man is recovering in the hospital after a shooting in downtown Bloomington early Sunday morning.

Police were called to the 300 block of East Kirkwood Avenue, near the Monroe County Public Library, just after 1 a.m. While officers found blood and personal items on the sidewalk, they did not find a victim at the scene.

A short time later, the 19-year-old arrived at IU Health Bloomington Hospital with gunshot wounds to his neck and shoulder. Police say the man is in stable condition but is not cooperating with police or providing details about what happened.

Witnesses told police the shooting followed a fight between two men near the intersection of Kirkwood Avenue and Lincoln Street. One of the men pulled out a gun and fired a single shot, sending people in the area running.

The bullet also hit the Old National Bank across the street, damaging the brick.

The shooter got into a car and drove away before police arrived. No one has been arrested, and police have not released a description of the suspect.

Anyone with information or video of the shooting should call Detective Chris Scott at 812-339-4477 or email scottc@bloomington.in.gov.
