BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) — Police are investigating an incident where a 77-year-old woman ran over a pedestrian Tuesday afternoon.
The Bloomington Police Department says the incident happened just after 4 p.m. at the intersection of West 3rd Street and South Liberty Drive.
According to police, a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by a 77-year-old Bloomington woman, was turning westbound onto 3rd street from Liberty Drive. She told police that the light turned yellow and she didn’t see any oncoming traffic, so she turned.
When she did, she “felt her vehicle strike something,” a press release from the Bloomington Police Department says.
Firefighters got the pedestrian out from under the Jeep, but the pedestrian died in the hospital. Their identity has not been released.
Police say that the driver cooperated with police and showed no signs of impairment. Witnesses who spoke with police confirm that they saw the incident and the pedestrian crossing the street beforehand.
