INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — When some of basketball’s biggest stars will hit the court this Saturday for the WNBA All-Star Game in Indianapolis, Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark will not be among them.
In a social media post shared on the Fever social media pages, Clark confirmed that she will miss both the All-Star Game and Friday’s STARRY 3-Point Contest due to injury.
“I am incredibly sad and disappointed to say I can’t participate,” Clark wrote. “I have to rest my body. I will still be at Gainbridge Fieldhouse for all the action and I’m looking forward to helping Sandy coach our team to a win.”
Clark left Tuesday night’s win over the Connecticut Sun late in the fourth quarter with a right groin injury and was ruled out for Wednesday’s game against the New York Liberty.
Wednesday’s game was the 11th game that Clark has missed this year due to injury.
Prior to Wednesday’s game, Fever head coach Stephanie White addressed Clark’s status.
“We just have to take it one day at a time,” White said. “It’s frustrating for her I’m sure especially. I think for us, as a staff, and as a team, just try to keep her encouraged and trying to keep her to stay the course.”
Clark missed time earlier in the season dealing with a quad injury before dealing with the current groin injury.
“The big picture is the most important,” White said. “For her health and wellness long term and for our team. We’ve been very slow in making sure that every time she comes back that she’s ready. We’ll continue to approach it like that. Long term is the most important.”
A replacement for Clark, who was set to captain one of the All-Star teams, has not been announced.
Clark has played in 13 games this WNBA season. She is averaging 16.5 points, 8.8 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game.
