7-17-25 Indy Dance Festival
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Indy Dance Festival is set to take place this weekend, offering a two-day celebration of dance in Indianapolis, coinciding with the WNBA All-Star Game.
The festival, organized by the Indy Dance Council, features masterclasses and free community workshops at Butler University’s Lilly Hall, along with showcase performances at The Tobias Theatre each evening. It aims to highlight the vibrant dance scene in Indianapolis, with 17 local dance groups and 2 out-of-town guests participating.
“Dance is for everybody,” said Sarah Farnsley, Managing Director of Indy Dance Council. “And everybody dances. If you dance in your kitchen, that counts.”
The festival includes a wide range of dance styles, from counter technique and Bhangra to contemporary partnering and improvisation.
It also offers free community classes such as Ballet and Dance for 50+, Kids Dance Outreach Workshop, and Ballroom Dance for adults with developmental disabilities.
Ryan Galloway, a dancer from Dance Kaleidoscope, is among the performers showcasing their talent during the festival.
The event provides an opportunity for local artists to shine and for attendees to experience the diversity of dance in Indianapolis.
Sarah Farnsley highlighted the festival’s role in breaking down barriers to dance participation, encouraging everyone to join in, regardless of their experience or ability.
The festival’s “buy one, give one” ticket initiative aims to make performances accessible to a wider audience.
The festival’s alignment with the WNBA All-Star Weekend has allowed the Indy Dance Council to curate dance activations downtown, further promoting the city’s dance community.
The Indy Dance Festival promises to be a vibrant celebration of dance, offering something for everyone and shining a spotlight on Indianapolis’s rich dance culture.
